Winter Road Maintenance
The Highway Department prioritizes snow and ice removal on all town-maintained roads. Please note the following:
Private Roads
The Town of Berkshire does not plow, maintain, or repair private roads or driveways. Only town-owned and town-maintained roads receive Highway Department services.

Services and Responsibilities
The Berkshire Highway Department handles the following municipal duties:
- Road Maintenance: Grading, patching, and resurfacing of town roads
- Snow and Ice Removal: Plowing and sanding/salting of town-maintained roadways during winter months
- Ditching and Drainage: Maintenance of roadside ditches, culverts, and drainage systems
- Signage: Installation, repair, and replacement of town road signs
- Bridge and Culvert Maintenance: Upkeep of town-owned bridges and culverts
- Brush and Debris Removal: Clearing roadsides of fallen trees and storm debris
Winter Road Maintenance
The Highway Department prioritizes snow and ice removal on all town-maintained roads. Please note the following:
- Roads are plowed and treated based on priority and severity of conditions.
- Do not push or deposit snow onto town roads. This creates hazardous conditions and is prohibited under Vermont statute (19 V.S.A. § 1105).
Private Roads
