About
The Town of Berkshire Selectboard is responsible for the "general supervision of the affairs of the town." The board is composed of five members elected on a staggered basis.

- drafting the annual budget to be approved by voters
- setting the municipal tax rate
- issuing warrants for payment by the Town Treasurer
- approving all Town contracts
- making appointments to local offices and boards; filling vacancies
- hiring and managing town personnel
- appointing an Assessor to maintain the grand list
- seeing that a reappraisal is done when required
- ensuring that an audit report is prepared and disseminated to voters prior to town meeting
- maintaining highways, water and sewer infrastructure
- managing forests, parks, and other municipal property
- creating local laws and policies regarding public safety, emergency management, and animal control
- adopting a town plan and development regulations and appointing a Zoning Administrator to enforce them
- working with the Town Clerk and department heads to manage town affairs
